PHILOMATH — Frank Perez stood in a muddy lot and waited as noble
and Douglas firs were stacked high on two trailers. “One is going
to Modesto, the other to Turlock. There’s probably about 520 trees
per trailer,” said the Hilmar, Calif., trucker, who spends most of
the rest of the year hauling hay....
