New Maine laws intended to benefit forestry
truckers
Multiple bills in the Maine Legislature that have been brought up
for consideration this year are intended to aid truckers in the
state's forest products industry. Gov. John Baldacci put his
signature on a bill to provide for a sales tax exemption for repair
parts and maintenance supplies used for motor vehicles and trailers
primarily engaged in the transport of harvested forest
products....

Logistics company officials address port issues behind closed
doors
Proposals to restructure port operations are hitting ports
throughout the northwest, and trucking company leaders are
privately pitching ways to address such proposed changes. In the
past week, several officials from trucking companies with
operations in California, Nevada, Washington and Oregon met
privately to discuss their legal options and possible responses to
the growing number of ports that are approving and proposing new
environmental regulations....

Alberta's transportation minister rejects speed limiters for his
province
While government officials and big trucking companies in Ontario
and Quebec are pushing for mandatory speed limiters on heavy
trucks, the transport minister of the Canadian province of Alberta
has no plans to follow suit because of enforcement issues....

Monday. The truckers convoyed to the state Capitol in Pierre to
protest high fuel prices....

Log trucker optimistic about TRUCC Act following DC
protest
One of the organizers of a truck convoy to Washington, DC, said
there is optimism that a fuel surcharge bill in Congress will be
passed into law. After circling the Capitol building on Monday,
April 28 in protest of high fuel prices, Maine logging trucker
Larry Sidelinger and others met with Sen. Olympia Snowe, who
sponsored the bill....
